Can you believe Adult Swim has been around for over 15 years?
To make it worse, Space Ghost Coast to Coast premiered well over 20 years ago! Even still, Christmas doesn’t pass without me thinking about four quesadillas. Space Ghost Coast to Coast would be the start of alternative animated programming which would eventually go on to create the Adult Swim network.
The older I got, the more I could relate to Brak.
It’s funny to look back and see what would become. The creators of Sealab 2021 would eventually have a hit with Archer, Aqua Teen Hunger Force would run 15 years, and Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law would have voice work from Stephen Colbert. Well, if you’re feeling nostalgic, now’s a good time to pick them up on Amazon. Apparently their classic titles are 50% for prime members.
It’s almost hard to remember a time before Adult Swim was it’s own channel, back when we had to wait up for Cartoon Network to go off the air. If it weren’t for Space Ghost, I never would have Boondocks, Mike Tyson Mysteries, Black Jesus. Nor would we have the returns of Family Guy and Futurama as their demand on Adult Swim directly affected their marketability and enticed networks to pick them back up.
A decade and a half later I still watch Adult Swim, and every time in I’m Atlanta I get a little excited when I see the Williams Street sign.
