I’ve seen a lot of hatred lately for Candace Payne, aka “Chewbacca Mom,” but nobody is really able to articulate their reason why. As a blogger and podcaster I get it, I’m jealous too. What literally took no thought nor effort on her part, has gained her a level of popularity I could only dream to someday achieve. But let’s sit back and get our emotions in check. Are you a little jealous? I could see that. Are you maybe a little over-saturated in her coverage? I can’t argue with that as you’re reading another article about her. But what exactly do you hate? Do you hate that she got lucky? Or do you hate that she took advantage of the opportunities in front of her? I don’t know about you, but for $500,000 I’d sign up right now to be “Jar Jar guy.” The reality of the situation is, people are desperate to be entertained, and truth be told, it seems like it doesn’t take much to hit a chord. And although for me the thrill is gone with Chewbacca Mom, I like that just this one time what was entertaining wasn’t anything embarrassing or demeaning. In fact, Candace the wookie summed it up quite nicely, “In all honestly, I think the world as a whole is in need of a good laugh. I think we’re in need of somebody to lift our spirits, to not take ourselves so seriously, and to maybe break some cynicism worldwide,” she explained. “It just needs to stop, and somebody needs to have a good belly laugh with somebody, and it happened to be me that day.So let’s quit being so upset with Chewbacca mom and get back to our regularly scheduled Kardashian news or PewDiePie video. We talk more Chewbacca Mom and attempt to entertain in the latest episode of the “Geek Versus Week” podcast.
